A Month of Music

Ok, so this idea was started on facebook but this way I can just update here and not pester people in their news feeds each and every day.

Day 01 - my favourite song
Ok, so it’s far too hard to chose just one song, but this definitely would make the top 5. Absolutely incredible song that probably helped me fall in love with real music.. rather than just 5 Green Bottles, The Wheels on the Bus etc., cheers pa ^_^

Day 02 - my least favourite song
There's no real contest here, a truly diabolical song.

Day 03 - a song that makes you happy
On so many occasions I would be driving to work, overly tired with little motivation and cursing the wintry mornings then the sun would start to rise and this song would come on the radio and suddenly life didn't seem nearly so bad after all..

Day 04 - a song that makes you sad
Beautiful, haunting, wonderful

Day 05 - a song that reminds you of someone
For my lovely sister, this song will forever remind me of her, age 15 playing this and Luniz's 'I got 5 on it' on repeat. Never mind Clapton, it's all about the long *brown* hair.

Day 06 - a song that reminds you of somewhere
Prince's Greatest Hits became the soundtrack to Croatia. There were other contenders from the album but this is hands down the winner, largely due to the frequency with which is was put on repeat!

Day 07 - a song that reminds you of a certain event
This reminds me of being on the plane to Uganda for the first time. I was travelling to Sub-Saharan Africa for the first time... alone, and this song just sums up the nervous excitement I was feeling. I've listened to Sigur Ros on every journey both to and from Uganda, since.

Day 08 - a song that you know all the words to
An incredibly catchy little tune, I fell in love with Johnny Flynn (and the Sussex Wit) when they supported Iron and Wine. I was singing along with the chorus by the end of the song the first time I ever heard it, since then I've also managed to pick up the rest of the song.

Day 09 - a song that you can dance to
How can you not dance to this classic track? Kanye may have made it 'cool' but in terms of danceability (yes I just made up that word) Ray Charles blows him out of the water.

Day 10 - a song that makes you fall asleep
The whole album is an excellent remedy for insomnia. It's not that the album is boring, because in reality, it's actually not, it's just soothing.

Day 11 - a song from your favorite band
The legendary Radiohead, never ones to play by the industry rules and creating seminal albums in 3 different decades. What's not to love?

Day 12 - a song from a band you hate
Ok, so not strictly a band but oh my dear lord I hate her and her whiney lyrical ways. They were slightly excusable when she was a 'misunderstood' teen but come on, grow up please Avril - she got married in the same year that this was release.... albeit to one of those chaps from Sum 41.

Day 13 - a song that is a guilty pleasure
Probably better loved by people of my parent's generation but I've a love for Jools Holland that goes beyond 'Later...' Pulling Mussels is a classic example of Squeeze's tongue in cheek style

Day 14 - a song that no one would expect you to love
I can only blame Uganda for making me love Kat de Luna, Akon, Da'ville, Radio and Weasel and of course, Brick and Lace. A slight departure from my usual love of folky melodies and lyrics with meaning...

Day 15 - a song that describes you
Ho ha hum, it's a bit awkward picking a song yourself, surely it's best left up for others. Still, this is the best I could think of, I think it's fairly representative.

Day 16 - a song that you used to love but now hate
This was a bit tricksy as early every song I've ever loved I've loved for good reason. However, aged 10 my judgement was clearly a bit off and thus these days the love that burned so bright for Mikey, Ronan, Steve, Shane and Keith is no more.

Day 17 - a song that you hear often on the radio
It was a toss up between this and Dolly Parton but the boys won out. Rather catchy little number that is probably played every 10th song here...

Day 18 - a song that you wish you heard on the radio
Simple, lovely and summery. Also the Welsh towards the end makes me feel all homely even when I'm here in Uganda.

Day 19 - a song from your favourite album
Not strictly from my favourite album as I'm not even sure I have a favourite album, ruddy good album though.

Day 20 - a song that you listen to when you’re angry
Stuck in a job you hate? Tired of imbeciles? Frustrated at your current lot in life? Then let The Libertine be your guide.

Day 21 - a song that you listen to when you’re happy
Just the opening few bars are enough to put a smile on my face, the rest of the song is just one big happyfest making me want to skip through meadows, go on big wheels and picnic left right and centre.

Day 22 - a song that you listen to when you’re sad
It doesn't necessarily have to be this song, but since I was a kid if I'm feeling a bit glum there's nowt that a good old listen to 'Magic of the Musicals' can't sort out!

Day 23 - a song that you want to play at your wedding
Aww such Tracy Chapman loveliness and many many associated memories ^_^

Day 24 - a song that you want to play at your funeral
Not just for the irony but I LOVED this film as a kid and the song just sums up happiness and freedom and innocence.

Day 25 - a song that makes you laugh
Absolute cheese and of course with added Grecian mask actions provided by my sister and me. Can't help but chuckle every time I hear this.

Day 26 - a song that you can play on an instrument
On the saxa-ma-phone no less... does that make it slightly cooler? In fairness, probably not.

Day 27 - a song that you wish you could play
Just so I could sit on the beach with a bonfire blazing, the stars a-glowing above, whip out a guitar and get a sing along happening :)

Day 28 - a song that makes you feel guilty
To be honest no song makes me feel guilty, my conscience is pretty clean. However, this song reminds me of a rather good house party which did in fact get raided by the police and if I were more badly behaved would probably have made me feel rather guilty!

Day 29 - a song from your childhood
Dionne Warwick will forever remind me of my mum ironing on a Sunday before the tea time drama and the roast were quite ready and me pairing the socks. Just hearing it conjurs up the smell of warm iroing and roast chicken mmm...

Day 30 - your favourite song at this time last year
Corker of a track, I for one am super happy that folk is popular once more. Lovely stuff.
